ABSTRACT
This chapter argues that the syncretic ethos of Kashmir has been violated by the outbursts of religious nationalism, secular nationalism, and ethno-nationalism that have facilitated political and social structural violence. It questions the exclusivity of cultural nationalism, the erosion of cultural syncretism, the ever-increasing dominance of religious fundamentalism, and the irrational resistance to cultural and linguistic differences.
