ABSTRACT

There has been an increase in the establishment of charity organisations in the Republic of Ireland in recent years, including Muslim faith-based charities. This chapter focuses on two non-profit Muslim charities based in Dublin, Islamic Relief Ireland (IRI) and Muslims Sisters of Eire (MSOÉ), who both aim to contribute to society in different ways through their operational practices and engagement with their respective communities. Based on interviews and questionnaires with their members, this qualitative case study provides a historical background on how they were established, their activities, the challenges they face as well as their influence and impact locally and internationally. This chapter concludes with some implications and offers some direction for future research in the field of CSOs in western contexts.
