ABSTRACT

A description is provided of how SST was introduced at the counseling center at the University of California, Santa Barbara. Highlighted are the most significant learning in the process of training and implementing SST, with an emphasis that a key to successful implementation is having both leadership and front-line staff understanding and supporting the model. Introducing SST, while challenging at times, has benefited both the agency and the client-students. A case example is provided to illustrate both the experience of the therapist in learning a new treatment modality as well as how client-students experience the benefits of the service. Evaluations of the service indicate that SST is indeed an appropriate response to the demands at the clinic.
