ABSTRACT

The authors describe the development of their SSTFT protocol, which involves seven steps: 1. Presession briefing with the team; 2. The family session; 3. Team break and construction of a team message; 4. Team metalogue in the presence of the family, 5. Post-session metalogue (or reflection) of family reaction, and intervention construction; 6. Appreciative inquiry interview with family; and 7. Post-session supervisor discussion with the lead therapist and team. They note that their clients, consistent with Chinese cultural values, prefer therapy that is expert-based, family-focused, structured, brief, directive, intervention-rich, and team-based. A case illustration is provided.
