ABSTRACT

The promise of significant advancement in the digital health space has been present for a number of years. This need for advancement may be extenuated by the incongruence that exists between the realities and expectations we have for digital health. Technology permeation is increasingly utilized in our daily lives for all sorts of functions (e.g. ordering food, changing the temperature in our homes, connecting with family overseas), and has led to an expectation that these same conveniences made possible by technology be experienced in health-related domains. A number of barriers unique to the health domain have made it challenging to advance digital health in similar ways that we use technology in our personal lives. Thus, the purpose of this chapter is to provide an overview of the various opportunities for digital health advancement that exist, while providing strategies and solutions to the current challenges preventing this advancement from being realized.
