ABSTRACT

This chapter remains largely as Lawrence Butler intended. His text was based in turn on handwritten notes (c.1957) provided by Patrick King, the first Northamptonshire County Archivist. Any changes are mostly corrections of fact, minor enhancements of bibliography and the filling of spaces left blank in the original text where further work was clearly intended by Butler but never completed. Figures have been added in and corrected as necessary. Further discoveries may await the medieval historian but for now a complementary section on Faxton’s landscape context has been added by Ronan O’Donnell which updates Butler’s original text. David Hall kindly contributed to this section while Paul Stamper wrote the paragraphs on RAF Harrington.
