ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book provides information about important steps such as getting buy-in from all levels of the museum and assessing resources and assets. It lays out important information about how children and families learn and important things to think about when welcoming all the different families that may visit. The book explores what it means to make space for children, both physically and in the atmosphere of the museum. It looks specifically at exhibits both young child specific and incorporating families and young children in the exhibit design thinking from the beginning. The book focuses on staff training and the providing all professionals in the museum the tools they need to feel comfortable and provide a quality experience.
