ABSTRACT

This introduction provides an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book presents research-based illustrations from the lives and professional development of teacher educators. It considers the pedagogy of the teacher educators and the strengths and weaknesses of a specific international collaborative research project with the output of tools to support the professional development of teacher educators. The book also presents a case for teacher educator involvement in research, demonstrated through her own involvement in research at different levels, in Irish and international contexts. It focuses on the value of commitment to active international engagement in order to contribute to local, national, and international policy and practice in the field.
