ABSTRACT

Organic public sociology is demonstrated through collaborative community memberships where academics work together with practitioners to create knowledge. The following chapter discusses two research-based partnerships with non-profit, community-based organizations that work with trauma victims – one larger, established organization with consistent funding revenues and one smaller, grassroots organization in need of funding. Research assistance was provided to both agencies by collaborating with key stakeholders to develop projects around their specific organizational needs. The chosen research projects were entirely organization driven, designed to fill gaps in their knowledge in order to better serve their clients. However, the success of these research endeavors differed dramatically. The chapter reflects on these two different experiences establishing community partnerships and helping community organizations produce knowledge through data-driven research publications.
