ABSTRACT
This chapter provides a high-level overview of the four categories of intellectual property: trademarks, patents, trade secrets, and copyrights. It provides a summary of each type of intellectual property, how and why it can be registered, how long protections last for registrations, and the unique considerations for cannabis companies. Intellectual property is critical in the cannabis space, as it is for many industries, and there are nuances impacting cannabis that are critical to understand.
