ABSTRACT

This chapter shows how big Russian multinational enterprises (MNEs) focus on transferring two HRM practices to their subsidiaries: training and social policy, reflecting the country of origin (COO) effect in their practice transfer. It provides an overview about the internationalisation of the Russian MNEs. Russian MNE have become important players in the global economy. The internationalisation of the Russian companies truly started in the 2000s, mainly in the form of cross-border mergers and acquisitions (M&A). The authors collected data in three de novo, three privatised companies and two subsidiaries of state-owned companies, representing a variety of industries; recruitment services, telecommunications, steel and mining, software development and banking. In order to gain new knowledge about international HRM practices of Russian multinationals, our main data source is comprised of secondary documentary data of the Russian MNEs.
