ABSTRACT
This chapter presents an overview of relevant analytical frameworks that can be applied to urban areas to identify innovative ways to look at global and local water problems. Within a collaborative perspective, new and more effective solutions within territorial integration of water governance are discussed. In a context of overlapping and complex challenges (climate change, migrations, generalized pollution, loss of biodiversity, health impacts), isolated good practices may be ineffective if not supported by other nations, regions, and communities following the same path. The review of the five analytical frameworks revealed the importance of dialogue among different agencies, the relevance of identifying the patterns of interaction among actors, the need for minimum institutional conditions for negotiation processes, the need for organizational capacity building, and the need for policy integration. It was concluded that context-oriented approaches demand more adequate methodologies that may uncover or explain similar issues in different regions, using similar lens but seeking more adequate results inside the local cultural views. It is recommended that the interconnectedness of today’s world be used as a tool to adopt a networking permanent attitude and to implement collaborative actions across all levels to effectively address the current multiple challenges.
