ABSTRACT

This chapter describes the general conceptual and historical background to studying affective influences on person perception judgments, and a multiprocess approach to the understanding of such effects is developed. It also describes a general theoretical framework assuming a multiprocess approach in the study of affective influences on person perception judgments. The chapter summarizes the main findings of our continuing research project on mood effects on person perception and judgments. In addition to the extensive laboratory evidence for mood effects on person perception judgments summarized above, author have also attempted to show that similar judgmental distortions also reliably occur in field settings. The chapter emphasizes the complex, constructive character of person perception judgments.
