Geoffrey Davis. I would like to begin with three topics which will give us a starting point for a discussion and be of some assistance to people unfamiliar with South Africa. These are, first: your own life and how you become a writer; second, your involvement in the magazine Staffrider, and third, the Creative Youth Association (C. Y. A.) project at Diepkloof. Later on we could talk about your involvement in black theatre, the situation in the theatre in Soweto and the townships generally and your assessment of it. When did you first start writing?
