ABSTRACT

An enthusiastic preoccupation with Husserl's posthumous writings has been at work since 1939. It is carried on partly by those of Husserl's students who are still living and partly by individuals associated with the Husserl-Archives. As far as Germany is concerned, an intensive and critical coming to terms with the later Husserl has not yet taken place. The published critical discussion of Husserl in Germany comes to an end with the Zocher-Fink debate. It is important to keep in mind that this discussion could never concern itself with the entire Husserl. Nicolai Hartmann also helped to effect the waning interest in Husserl. He took up the Husserlian theme of formal and regional ontologies and carried it out in a fruitful manner. Husserl had explicitly indicated many times in what sense and with what divergencies he had attached his thought to Descartes.
