ABSTRACT
On March 19, 1947, Hu Zongnan attacked the capital of the Shaan-Gan-Ning Revolutionary Base. The ensuing defense of Yan'an was one of the most mysterious dramas in Chinese military history. Ling Yun ran into Wang while he was traveling between Lin and Xing counties. Wang, the former special research fellow, was wearing a grey cotton coat and pants, holding a stick, walking slowly by himself. According to the organizational system or authonty at that time, departments under the Central Committee did not have the authority to issue direct orders to local security bureaus, nor could they pass on decisions for an execution to subordinate bureaus of the Central Committee. Some people speculate that even after he was transferred to Jin-Sui, Wang Shiwei probably maintained his attitude of "going to his grave without admitting his faults".
