ABSTRACT

Globalization, increased use of information and communication technologies, organizational development and restructuring are some keywords in this ongoing change process. It is assumed that knowledge and employees' competencies will belong to the core resources in these future work organizations. In order to explain high performance, many expertise studies adopt a process perspective. They examine how high performers accomplish tasks, which strategies they use and on which competencies they build in the work process. Reliable and transferable results of research on expertise and excellent performance are of great importance for practitioners working internally or as freelance consultants. Actually, it is one of their core tasks in organizations to ensure and promote comprehensively high performance of the whole staff in order to strive for outstanding business excellence. Personnel selection procedures on their own are not sufficient for ensuring high performance. Angela Tripoli reports an empirical study of high performance in a technical domain.
