ABSTRACT

In his article, Marinus Follon describes team learning experience at the Terneuzen Styrenics Naturals plant using knowledge sharing between two different professional groups of the employees. The programme has been started with a very practical purpose—to improve decision-making quality and develop technologies. Engineers gained awareness of 'down to earth' aspect of the operating conditions of the plant and operators gained broader perspective of the operational processes. Limiting factors affecting knowledge sharing process and its results were defined. A few aspects of knowledge sharing process have been mentioned which might be interesting topics for further research in the area. Broader aspects of the effects of knowledge sharing process might be investigated in greater depth. The conditions of successful implementation of the process might be elaborated on and described in more detail. Data from the field are needed that provide the possibility to test and enrich theoretical models and concepts.
