ABSTRACT

This chapter gives—viewed from the practitioner's perspective—some fruitful hints on a very interesting topic. Globally it links two positive items at the workplace: likeability and peer assessment. Likeability is positive because it helps to create a good working climate and a motivated attitude towards work. Peer assessments are the highlight of every workplace survey and therefore are always welcome as one way to find out talents and high performers, though not the main path for it. Likeability plus peer assessments could be an additional tool for managers and organizations assessing their staff. But this combination also presents limitations: Sometimes likeability does not get to the results people would desire. In practical terms this means to isolate a sample and define actions and measurements including the former four techniques: evaluate friendship and peer relationships; train the employees involved to look at topics in favour of increased objectivity; perform; use peer assessments as a tool and means to control results and feedback.
