ABSTRACT

Employees often change tasks within the same job because they work on temporary projects or work domains. Findings in this article are relevant for human resource oriented management and also be used for personnel selection, personnel training, and personnel consultancy. It opens up possibilities for personnel management which is oriented this way, and can enable people to be more employable in organizations. It helps employees in making career choices. It helps personnel managers to create good professional training programmes for their organizations and to undertake good personnel consultancy for improving their most important competitive advantage—the knowledge, skills, and abilities of their employees. In this context, expertise is potentially a very important concept for each organization. Relating competencies to tasks and roles and discerning stable and trainable competencies has good value for applied human resource management. It is possible to use it in personnel selection, in better specification of the competencies required for tasks and roles and their potential changes.
