ABSTRACT

This article reviews the neoliberal policies pursued by the governments of Presidents Carlos Menem and Fernando De La Rúa in Argentina from 1989 until the rebellion that overthrew the latter in December of 2001; the mass movements that resisted the neoliberal policies since the great mobilization of the unemployed in Plaza Huincul and Cutralcó in 1996; and the factory occupations after the rebellion. The trends after the election of president Nestor Kirchner in 2003 are also examined.
