ABSTRACT

This chapter provides a discussion on some of the technical aspects of e-business, and examines the activities in functional areas of the organization, such as marketing, administration and distribution. In order to understand the financial issues associated with e-business, it is necessary to understand a little of the technology and terminology associated with it. The business’s computer must have a telephone link to a web server. The server is generally a powerful computer owned by an information service provider (ISP). The ISP rents space and access to businesses. A dynamic site is technically more complex since it contains volatile data such as stock availability and consequently has to be updated very frequently as the quantities change. The analogy between a real shop and the virtual shop is very valid. A visitor is more likely to enter the shop if the ‘portal’ is attractive and enticing.
