The characteristics of women in the labour market are uncovered, and issues such as wage discrimination, education statistics and the specific role of women managers in Russia are explored. Women accounted for 54 percent of all the Graduate Management Admission Test takers holding Russian citizenship. A report by the Grant Thornton consultancy stated that 89 percent of the Russian enterprises it interviewed in a survey of 6,900 businesses in 26 countries, had women in management. Despite these findings, only 42 percent of senior management posts in Russia were held by women. A study of public sector employees in the Moscow and Saratov region of Russia found that organizations needed to actively show commitment to gender equity within the workplace and direct and visible support for the advancement of women into executive position particularly in the public services.
