ABSTRACT

The Law of Female Quotas “specifying at least 30 percent of political parties’ proposals for legislative positions are to be women” was approved during the Menem Government in 1991. Women also occupy senior posts in the Armed Forces and it is significant that for the first time in Argentine history, the Minister of Defence is a woman, Nilda Garre. In the Argentine Government, women constitute 48 percent of employees and 11 percent of the highest posts in the ministries. The number of female entrepreneurs has undoubtedly increased in the last few years, mainly as a result of the international recession as well as their growing tendency to become more proactive. Compared to other Latin American counties, regarding the Opening Dimension for access to work, Argentina is placed second after Brazil. This is especially valuable as it shows that Argentina is surpassing countries with relatively more stable economies, such as Columbia and Chile.
