ABSTRACT

The present modes of security and economy are not really serving the long-term interests of humanity as a whole, nor even the interests of competing industrialized sectors of society, but are consistently and widely shown to be causal to the global state of insecurity and life-threatening environmental degradation. A united and unifying peace–environment-world governance movement could go a long way towards sharpening the focus on global needs for long-term cooperation, planning, and direction. It may be suggested that this is already being done, but to think so would be illusory; starvation and every kind of suffering and deprivation torments tens of millions of the world’s misfortuned. Active involvement has grown with the increasing volume of a vigorous and extensive literature that continues to explicate the issues, cover facts, present statistical detail, and to relate the perspectives and needs of social, economic and environmental future.
