ABSTRACT

Current day radiologic technologists are the operators of very sophisticated radiation-producing equipment, both diagnostic and therapeutic, and are intimately involved with the medical use of a wide variety of radioactive materials. The duties and responsibilities assumed by this group of allied health professionals necessitates that adequate education and training be given and certification of competence to perform these duties be properly addressed. The scope of this chapter is to provide information on the education and training of radiologic technologists, the certification and licensure of radiologic technologists, and the accreditation of programs in radiologic technology, all of which are intended to ensure the radiation health and safety of patients, workers, and the public.
