ABSTRACT
Any review and analysis of events in South Yemen (The People’s Democratic Republic of Yemen — PDRY) requires at least a brief summary of relevant past events. This chapter will assume a general knowledge of the Arabian peninsula, and therefore only cursorily present selected dates and events in order to provide the relevant background. Accordingly, the omission of certain factors should not be interpreted to mean that they are considered irrelevant, only that they have been omitted for reasons of space and the primary purpose of the chapter. 2
