ABSTRACT

Some people like to write in long, intensive stretches; others in regular blocks of a few hundred words each day. But the latter is undoubtedly the easier and safer pattern for a research student. one should also try to plan their writing sessions so that one make best use of the time of day that one find the words flow most easily. The wordprocessor is ideal for compiling and rearranging the material in an outline and there are special programs which make it even easier. But given the limitations of the screen, some still like to begin work on each chapter by taking a large sheet of paper and writing all over it, using lines and balloons to connect ideas. The English language is constantly evolving, so there will always be arguments about proper usage. Some common usages, however, are definitely undesirable, as they are either incorrect, tired or misleading.
