ABSTRACT

Processes involve the means used to deliver programs (i.e., methods of assessment, use of technology, teacher training). Sarason has suggested that most in the academe did not readily embrace assessment requests. On the surface, assessment spread across the country, but most faculties considered assessment only an added burden and window dressing. The faculty for the program area should become involved with assessment at this stage. The faculty for each program area should see different niches for the preparation of individual goal statements. Concerns and fears of censorship of academic freedom will be alleviated if the faculty is at the helm of assessment goal statements. The web master for the University of Nevada–Reno has compiled a “links page” that views assessment plans and examples of several institutions. Strategic planning and assessment help an institution or academic unit to focus its energy to systematically gather data useful in meeting a variety of campus and accrediting assessment demands.
