ABSTRACT
Design of new towns and cities in Africa is basically a result of colonialism and/or industrial development. Major political statements such as Dodoma, Abuja and Lilongwe should not overshadow another reality of African urbanisation, the existence of numerous small and medium sized towns created as result of political, and economic interests or for administrative reasons.
