ABSTRACT
A series of intellectual and policy critical events have occurred in the areas of race, immigration, and housing policy in the United States over the last several years that powerfully affect the potential for accommodating differences within metropolitan societies. These interrelated policy and political realignments help set the context for Federal Government interventions and demonstrations aimed at the desegregation or integration of persons of colour within the larger community.
