ABSTRACT
Despite the low number of organizations operating in Szeged, they were included in the sample because they are the oldest and most active organizations in the field of drug demand reduction in Hungary. Among national organizations, policy design, co-ordination, and research appear to be the dominant areas of activity A considerable proportion of the institutions work exclusively on drug demand reduction. The main reason for this is the fact that these organizations concentrate on various specialized fields of drug demand reduction. The data show that a high proportion of organizations in drug demand reduction programmes have paid employees and experts. Considerable funds are allocated for drug demand reduction programmes in institutions in the capital because they are specialized in this kind of activities, whereas in national organizations drug demand reduction is one of many other tasks.
