ABSTRACT

Brio, the journal of the UK and Ireland Branch of International Association of Music Libraries, is so much a part of Branch life that it is, with the Newsletter, the only point of contact for some people. It was not always thus, for it was some little while after the foundation of the Branch, the subject of the present celebrations, before a journal appeared. In 1987 the question of an index of articles in journals was considered, but it was decided that this would not be proceeded with; there were several sources covering the subject already. Brio was by now a sufficiently solid (in both senses) and established publication by itself: reviews in particular had been expanded. The task of collecting and encouraging contributions from advertisers, so important to the financial state of Brio, was entrusted to a succession of more-or-less willing members.
