ABSTRACT

Ideally and commonly the programme management office (PMO) haves a manager to oversee its various functions and services. Using the nine-quadrant model, a PMO can be classified as strategic, tactical and/or operational. A PMO can provide services to many stakeholders, both within and outside the programme. One fundamentally important job of the enterprise PMO is to ensure that all programme management and project management systems are compatible with each other across all projects and programmes throughout the organization. That compatibility includes the scheduling methodologies, project management software, reporting methods, terminology and things such as numbering and coding systems. The objective of resource management is to ensure that the programme has the right resources available at the right time to deliver the programme successfully. One important function of a PMO is the monitoring and reporting of costs against budgets. The PMO objective in benefits management is to ensure that benefits identified are realized throughout delivery and completion of the programme.
