ABSTRACT

This chapter is a comprehensive reference manual providing information on the Timed Gait Pattern Function Tests, which examine gait function by recording the time taken to walk a set distance. Timed Gait Pattern Function Tests were originally developed as a method of assessing cardiovascular or respiratory functioning. A variant that was developed to assess movement functions in addition to gait and is the Timed Up and Go Test. A brief history of the instrument's development is provided, along with a description of item content and administration/scoring procedures. Psychometric properties are reviewed and a critical commentary is provided. Key references are cited and in most cases the actual scale is included, giving the reader easy access to the instrument.
