ABSTRACT

This chapter is a comprehensive reference manual providing information on the Nottingham Activities of Daily Living Scale (NADLS), which is a rating scale of basic activities of daily living, designed with the facility of being either an observational tool or a clinician/informant/self-rating scale. The NADLS is designed to be rated by a clinician who has observed or has knowledge of the patient’s level of functioning. The NADLS is a valid, quick and easily completed scale, which can be used in a clinical setting to evaluate a patient’s level of functioning. A brief history of the instrument's development is provided, along with a description of item content and administration/scoring procedures. Psychometric properties are reviewed and a critical commentary is provided. Key references are cited and in most cases the actual scale is included, giving the reader easy access to the instrument.
