ABSTRACT

This chapter is a comprehensive reference manual providing information on the Nottingham Leisure Questionnaire (NLQ), which is a self-rating scale, designed to measure leisure activity. Data from the Drummond and Walker study using the original NLQ were reanalysed with the shortened version and the same results were found. Data on discriminant validity and responsiveness of the NLQ are available from a number of other clinical trials on the effect of day activity and leisure programmes. Subsequently the NLQ was modified slightly to facilitate self-administration and use in postal surveys and clinical trials. A brief history of the instrument's development is provided, along with a description of item content and administration/scoring procedures. Psychometric properties are reviewed and a critical commentary is provided. Key references are cited and in most cases the actual scale is included, giving the reader easy access to the instrument.
