ABSTRACT

This chapter is a comprehensive reference manual providing information on the Participation Objective, Participation Subjective (POPS), which is designed to be administered to the person with traumatic brain injury within the context of an interview. The POPS is a rating scale, designed to be administered in the context of an interview to measure both objective and subjective components of participation. A possible drawback of the POPS is the scoring format for the Participation Objective component, which is complex and involved, and the need for a statistical program to calculate scores may limit the feasibility of using the POPS in clinical settings. A brief history of the instrument's development is provided, along with a description of item content and administration/scoring procedures. Psychometric properties are reviewed and a critical commentary is provided. Key references are cited and in most cases the actual scale is included, giving the reader easy access to the instrument.
