ABSTRACT

This chapter is a comprehensive reference manual providing information on the Sydney Psychosocial Reintegration Scale (SPRS), which is primarily a clinician rating scale, designed to measure psychosocial functioning in people with traumatic brain injury. The SPRS can be administered by a clinician to an informant/patient in a face-to-face interview, or clinicians can make ratings based on their knowledge of the patient. A particular area of strength of the SPRS is the availability of two complementary forms measuring different perspectives of psychosocial integration using comparable item content and scoring format. A brief history of the instrument's development is provided, along with a description of item content and administration/scoring procedures. Psychometric properties are reviewed and a critical commentary is provided. Key references are cited and in most cases the actual scale is included, giving the reader easy access to the instrument.
