ABSTRACT

This chapter is a comprehensive reference manual providing information on the World Health Organization Disability Assessment Schedule II (WHODAS II), which is a self-rating scale that examines everyday activities. The World Health Organization website advises that information from the WHODAS II can be used to identify needs, match patients to interventions, track functioning over time, and measure clinical outcomes and treatment effectiveness. The WHODAS II can be administered by an interviewer, or completed by an informant or the person themselves. The WHODAS II was administered twice, before and after a rehabilitation intervention, thereby providing information on responsiveness. A brief history of the instrument's development is provided, along with a description of item content and administration/scoring procedures. Psychometric properties are reviewed and a critical commentary is provided. Key references are cited and in most cases the actual scale is included, giving the reader easy access to the instrument.
