ABSTRACT

This chapter is a comprehensive reference manual providing information on the Cognitive Failures Questionnaire (CFQ), which is designed for self-completion, and administration is quick and easy. The self-version of the CFQ contains 25 items, sampling the areas of memory, perception and action. The underlying factor structure of the CFQ has been explored in a number of studies and a variable number of factors has been reported. The spouse of each participant also completed the CFQ with respect to the participant, providing information on participant-proxy agreement. The CFQ originates from the perspective of cognitive psychology, and was designed for the general population rather than as a clinical instrument. A brief history of the instrument's development is provided, along with a description of item content and administration/scoring procedures. Psychometric properties are reviewed and a critical commentary is provided. Key references are cited and in most cases the actual scale is included, giving the reader easy access to the instrument.
