ABSTRACT

This chapter is a comprehensive reference manual providing information on the Dysexecutive Questionnaire (DEX), which is a rating scale, using clinician, informant and/or self-ratings. The DEX can be completed either independently by a clinician or an informant who has good knowledge of the person or as a self-rating. The factor analysis, conducted on the DEX informant ratings, extracted five factors accounting for 67% of the variance: Inhibition, Intentionality. The DEX was one of the first standardized rating scales of executive symptomatology to be published that was developed specifically for people with acquired brain impairment. A brief history of the instrument's development is provided, along with a description of item content and administration/scoring procedures. Psychometric properties are reviewed and a critical commentary is provided. Key references are cited and in most cases the actual scale is included, giving the reader easy access to the instrument.
