ABSTRACT

This chapter is a comprehensive reference manual providing information on the Memory Compensation Questionnaire, which is a self-rating scale, designed to evaluate “the variety and extent of means for compensating for memory losses and deficits”. It was originally developed to target normal cognitive ageing processes. It has also been used with clinical samples, including people with Alzheimer’s disease and younger people with memory disorders from various neurological conditions. A brief history of the instrument's development is provided, along with a description of item content and administration/scoring procedures. Psychometric properties are reviewed and a critical commentary is provided. Key references are cited and in most cases the actual scale is included, giving the reader easy access to the instrument.
