ABSTRACT

This chapter brings together six ICF categories from two blocks of the Mental functions domain that are pertinent to the regulation of behaviour, thought and emotion: from the Global mental functions block these are the categories of Global psychosocial, Temperament and personality, and Energy and drive; from the Specific mental functions block they are the categories of Emotional, Thought and Higher-level cognitive. Scales assessing the ICF categories are combined into a single chapter because of the considerable overlap at a functional level. Dysfunction of brain areas that are directly responsible for the initiation and control of behaviour, thought and emotion occurs commonly in many neurological conditions. The eight third-level categories of the ICF Temperament and personality category represent core personality features that are often included in personality inventories.
