ABSTRACT

This chapter is a report of Jon Elster’s meeting with members of the transitional justice team of the Presidency of Colombia in 2013. Here, Elster reports and comments on his observation and analysis of the actors, parties, and positions that shape the conflict and the peace-building process. He also shares what he has learned from these observations in the context of the conflict in Colombia, its roots and the successes and challenges of the negotiation of transitional justice. Most importantly by giving close attention to the dynamics of the processes of conflict and of peace within the frame of social justice, Elster gives us insights into some of the broader factors enabling social learning, and makes well-informed proposals and suggestions for the future of the process.
