ABSTRACT

Since the mid-twentieth century, rapid economic development, industrialization, and urbanization, along with global climate change and air pollution, have become a serious problem in recent decades in mainland China and Taiwan. Based on available literature, this chapter attempts to discuss energy saving practices and greenhouse gas emissions reduction in coastal southeast mainland China and Taiwan. The first section will provide an overview regarding the situation of air pollution. The second section will discuss practices of energy saving and emissions reduction in provinces and cities. The third section will discuss cases of energy saving and emissions reduction in various industrial sectors. And a brief concluding remark will be given at the end.
