In their concluding chapter on Ireland, Liddy & O’Brien describe the gendered challenges that mothers face when working in Irish film and television industries and how they attempt to address those challenges in order to sustain their working lives. Drawing on the experiences of over 48 mothers located in multiple genres of screen production, the chapter briefly itemises the challenges that mothers face in their careers as they struggle to accommodate the care of small children with the ‘always on’ culture of work. As well as identifying existing or potential problems, this chapter outlines potential solutions for greater change in a sector that needs to more fully include the perspectives of mothers in the creation and reproduction of our culture through film and television work.
