ABSTRACT

In order to successfully implement innovative Global Englishes-oriented pedagogic actions in teacher education programs, it is important for teacher educators to carefully assess the impact of such innovations on teachers’ attitudes. Thus, this chapter introduces an activity that involves a discussion with teacher educators about the evaluation of teachers’ attitudes. The activity uses the Global Englishes orientation questionnaire (GEO-Q) developed recently by the author in collaboration with other experts, with reference to the Global Englishes Language Teaching (GELT) model, as an example of an evaluation tool. This activity helps teacher educators to feel more confident and better equipped in successfully completing Global Englishes-aware teacher education, providing opportunities to become teacher-researchers. Teacher educators who lack a solid understanding of Global Englishes may have difficulty working on the activity. Thus, this activity can be conducted together with some other Global Englishes awareness-raising activities. The activity can be used not only with teacher educators but also with teacher candidates and practicing teachers.
