ABSTRACT

Language teacher education has always been an important area in English language teaching. In light of recent development of globalization and the spread of English as a global language, we propose one activity in which teacher educators and teacher candidates engage in discussions of culture teaching within a Global Englishes perspective. Based on this activity, we hope that teacher candidates could develop critical understandings of good language teaching practice based on a hierarchical view of culture teaching that prioritizes native English-speaking teachers’ (NESTs) culture over nonnative English-speaking teachers (NNESTs). Thus, the proposed activity aims at challenging a native speaker-oriented good language teaching and facilitating NNESTs’ professional identity development.
