ABSTRACT

The awareness of the problems of standard tests based on the norms of native English speakers are achieved through reflection. The second component is to write a proposal to design an appropriate test for their students. In accordance with the social and cultural context of teaching English as an International Language in the home countries of these trainees, how to include the varieties of “local English” in language testing are discussed and analyzed from a critical point of view. Writing a proposal of designing language test taking Global Englishes into consideration will further increase the trainees’ critical awareness about the importance of inclusion of varieties used by non-native English speakers.
